How to Update Samsung Galaxy S2 to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 without Kies

When Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 received its first Official Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update, the firmwares build was XWLS8. GT-I9100 is the international version of Samsung Galaxy SII.

At first release, the Jelly bean update was not available for all countries but now it is available for most of the country.

Flashing is the process of installing operating system software in mobile devices. If you want to do Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update, through flashing stock firmware, choose the official firmware that is build for your country.

In this post I included the steps to manually update Galaxy S2 I9100 to Official Android 4.1.2 using Odin v1.85. Download links of all the latest Galaxy S2 stock firmwares included. Download the one belongs to specific countries.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Software Update Requirements

  1. This Samsung Galaxy S2 software update only works for international model GT-I9100
  2. Make sure that your phone is factory unlocked
  3. Backup all the data in your Galaxy S2 phone
  4. The phone battery should be at least 80% charged
  5. USB Debugging be Enabled
  6. Make sure you have installed Kies or S2 driver
  7. Kill Antivirus and Kies apps before flashing

Galaxy S2 update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with Odin

  1. Download and Extract the Odin3 v1.85, on your computer.

  2. Download and Extract the Official Stock Android 4.1.2 firmware zip for your Country, on your computer..

  3. Power off and boot Samsung Galaxy S2 into Download Mode by hold together [ Volume Down + Home + Power ] keys combination.

  4. Connect Galaxy S2 phone in download mode to computer through data cable.

  5. On computer, Open Odin 1.85 and look in to ID:COM box, which should be yellow with a port name and a "Added!" message in the message box.

  6. On Odin, click PDA and select the firmware tar.md5 file, extracted in step 2.

  7. Hit Start button on Odin and wait.

  8. After successful flashing Odin will show PASS on top left and the phone will reboot.

That's it, your Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) is updated to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean successfully.

If the phone stuck at the Samsung boot boot logo screen or you face any force close issue, follow these steps:
  1. Remove and reinsert your battery
  2. Now boot into recovery mode using [Volume Up + Home + Power] keys combination
  3. In recovery mode, navigate options through Volume Up and Down keys and Select through Home key.
  4. Apply wipe data/factory reset (Caution: it erases all phone data).
  5. Apply wipe cache partition
  6. Finally reboot system
